Develop comprehensive knowledge of pharmacological agents essential to dental practice. This course covers local anesthetic medications, their mechanism of action, toxicity, and safe administration. Learn about vasoconstrictors and their role in extending anesthesia duration and reducing systemic absorption. The course explores commonly prescribed dental medications including antibiotics, analgesics, anti-inflammatories, and antihistamines, with emphasis on appropriate selection, dosing, and contraindications. You will understand sedation techniques including oral, nitrous oxide, and intravenous modalities for anxiety management. The course covers medical emergencies that may occur in dental practice, including recognition and management of allergic reactions, syncope, hypoglycemia, and cardiac emergencies. Learn appropriate use of emergency medications including epinephrine and oxygen. Drug interactions, patient assessment for medical considerations, and medication documentation are critical components.
